Gary Barkhuizen is Professor in the School of Cultures, Languages, and Linguistics at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. His teaching and research interests are in the areas of teacher education, narrative research, and teacher and learner identity. He is former co-editor of the Language Teaching Research journal. He is currently involved in a number of projects which use a narrative inquiry approach to explore language teaching, teacher identity, language learning and identity, including in study abroad and migrant contexts. His research methods typically follow those associated with narrative research and other qualitative traditions.
